Dalai Lama followers responsible for planning self immolation: China
China has blamed the self immolation attempt by a Tibetan protestor on Delhi on people close to the Dalai Lama. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei said, "All of their deeds show that a group of Dalai followers are responsible for planning the self immolation. Maiming and destroying human life in order to reach the separatist political goal of Tibetan independence will never succeed."
This came ahead of Chinese Premier Hu Jintao's visit to India for BRICS Summit that begins in Delhi on Wednesday. New Delhi is all set to play host to world leaders that include Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, South African President Jacob Zuma and Chinese Premier Hu Jintao.
A Tibetan protestor lit himself on fire at a demonstration on Monday in the national capital ahead of a visit by China's President Hu Jintao. The protestor was engulfed in flames as he ran near the speakers at the rally near the Indian Parliament.
Fellow activists beat out the flames with the Tibetan flags that they were carrying. The protestor was admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital and is being treated for severe burns.
Ahead of Jintao's visit for the BRICS summit, Delhi has seen widespread protests by the Tibetan community. Police are also maintaining a tight vigil outside Tibetan hostels and colonies trying to ensure that protests don't mar Jintao's visit.
